Ocean Inspired Sunglasses Case

Crochet Sunglass Case

My first crochet project I wanted to share this summer is this cute case I made for my sunglasses. I’ve been needing a case because I’ve been throwing my sunglasses right into my purse and I thought it would be a good idea to at least try to prevent them from getting scratched, so this is what I made. I was able to find this pattern for the sunglasses case.

You will need:

  1. Yarn (I used Red Heart Shaded Dusk)
  2. Crochet Hook (Size 5.5/I hook)
  3. Yarn Needle
  4. Scissors
  5. Button

Materials for Sunglass case

I am terrible at following patterns and sometimes don’t realize I am doing a stitch wrong until it is too late. So, it works much better for me to find out what the stitch is called and then follow a youtube video on how to do the stitch. This is the one I used for the bobble stitch. If you are doing a large project, I would also suggest trying the stitch out on a small scale before starting (I learned this the hard way). But, the bobble stitch actually ended up being easier than I thought it would be.

For each half:

Chain: 13

Row 1: 13 Single Crochet

Row 2: dc5tog, single crochet, dc5tog, single crochet & repeat

Row 3: 13 Single Crochet

repeat rows 2 & 3 until it is a little longer than your sunglasses (my case ended up being 10 rows long)

Two halves of bobble stitch case

Once you have your two halves, you can crochet or sew them together. Hold the bobble side of each half against each other and stitch the flat sides together along three edges until you reach the top of your case. Fix the case so it is no longer inside-out and the bobbles are on the outside. I had to push out the bottom corners to form a rectangle. Then, you can single crochet the top of one side, crocheting around to the opposite side until you are one stitch from the middle, where you want you “button hole” to be. I chained enough stitches for the yarn to fit over my button. When your chain is long enough, skip the middle stitch and continue single crocheting until you reach the first single crochet. Slip stitch and tie off. Sew your button on the opposite side of the loop you formed, sew in all your loose strings and you are ready to go!
